Indian lunch at Radhe Chaat in Santa Clara, CA

I have been a regular at Radhe Chaat for almost a year now, just not in the traditional sense. Last Friday was the first time I had a sit down lunch at Radhe Chaat. All my past trips were restricted to picking up chai and samosas to go, of which theirs is the best value in town. I digress. I finally got a chance to do lunch at Radhe Chaat and here is my review.

It was a Friday afternoon and four of us headed the way of Radhe Chaat. I had to discuss a catering event with the proprietors and finally decided to do lunch at their place. For a Friday afternoon at 12:15, the folks were slowly but steadily streaming in. When we walked in there were close to 25 people. When we walked out, there were over 50 people enjoying their long Friday lunch. Radhe Chaat’s dining area is pretty large by any measure, more so by the Bay Area Indian restaurant standards. We got seated right away.

Our appetizer options were far and many. We went with Sabudana vada and Ragda Pattice. For the main course, we ordered a bunch of things. I ordered a bhel thaali with chai(a thaali which came with a plate of Bhel puri, my favorite). The others ordered a dahi batata sev puri, channa bhatura, and makke di roti with saag and an order of chaas. The food started arriving pretty quickly. The sabudana vada plate had 4 pieces and the bhel puri accompanying my thali had a generous portion size. Soon, we were all wolfing down the food and sampling each others plate. The food was reasonably spiced and portions were very good. We ended up taking some of the chana bhatura to go.

Overall, I walked away pleased with the quality, taste and cost of food at Radhe Chaat. As much as I liked their samosas and chai that typically picked up to go (and will do again this coming weekend), I appreciated their in-house dining experience.

Ambiance: 8.5/10. The place is pretty large by Bay Area Indian restaurant standards. There are touches of color all over the place. Without being completely unique, they still stand out.

Service: 8.5/10. Food arrived quickly. We didnt have any reason to complain.

Food: 8.5/10. I liked everything I tried. No complaints. I would order one item less next time given their portion sizes.

Price: 8.75/10. Very reasonable and good value.

Restroom: N/A

Overall: 8.5/10. If you are looking for good vegetarian North Indian fare in South Bay for a reasonable price, give Radhe Chaat a shot.
